Special Education Teacher – Pisgah
SAR Academy, a Modern Orthodox Day School in Riverdale, NY, seeks a dynamic Special Education teacher/associate teacher to join our Lower School Pisgah team (Grades 1–5) for the 2026–27 school year. Candidates must have experience supporting students with language-based learning differences using evidence-based approaches. NYS Certification in Special Education is required; experience teaching Judaic Studies is preferred.
About Pisgah
Pisgah is an integrated program that provides students with the support of a full-time Special Education teacher and related service providers, while remaining in a General Education classroom. This model offers strong peer interaction alongside targeted, intensive support.
SAR’s inclusion program serves students in K–7 within mainstream classrooms. Each group is supported by a Special Education teacher who coordinates each student’s overall plan and collaborates closely with classroom teachers and support staff.
Pisgah emphasizes individualized instruction, creating tailored plans that address areas of challenge while building on strengths. The program also supports “hidden” learning needs through explicit, goal-directed instruction in language development, emotional regulation, executive functioning, and peer relationships.
Responsibilities:
– Develop and differentiate curriculum with the teaching team
– Provide academic and organizational support (in-class and small groups)
– Create and implement individualized learning plans
– Monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed
– Communicate regularly with parents
Qualifications:
– Understanding of social, emotional, and cognitive development
– Experience teaching students with learning differences
– Strong rapport-building skills with children
– Collaborative problem-solving abilities
– Creative, flexible teaching approach
– Working knowledge of educational technology
– Master’s in Special Education (or in progress)
– NYS Certification in Special Education required/preferred
Salary: $70,000–$85,000 (commensurate with experience)
