The Abraham Joshua Heschel School is seeking a one year full time lower school learning support teacher (Grades 1-5) for the 2026-27 school year.
Graduate degree in literacy/reading, learning disabilities, or speech and language, and at least 3 years of school-based experience is required.
The ideal candidate should have the following:
- Training in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, PAF, or similar program
- Experience with The Writing Revolution
- Experience with behavioral support preferred
- Experience administering a variety of assessments to track and support student growth
- At least three years school-based teaching experience as a learning specialist or SLP with a focus on attaining early literacy skills
- A strong knowledge base in the area of learning differences, especially dyslexia, dysgraphia, as well as a deep knowledge base regarding ADHD
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Teaching small reading groups as requested, with a focus on decoding, comprehension, and writing
- Providing push-in support/team teaching during ELA
- Collaborating with teachers and providing guidance for supporting a range of learners, including modifying curriculum and implementing supportive strategies in the classroom.
- Partnering with families and outside specialists regarding the needs and progress of students
- Participating in parent conferences and writing individual progress reports
- Daily assignments determined by the school based on instructional and coverage needs
