Position
Reporting to the school principals, the school nurse is a full-time, 10.5 month position with the hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm on school days, except for Fridays when dismissal is earlier. The Nurse will serve as the primary medical resource to the school throughout the school day, helping support the assessment, evaluation and management of illness and basic injuries.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Providing comprehensive health assessments to students and community members (faculty/staff) on campus, and assisting with their individual health plans as needed.
Channeling any mental health concerns to the appropriate division counselor and partnering with them as appropriate.
Keeping the appropriate administrators and their teams apprised of any serious health concerns or issues with students in their division.
Providing access to over-the-counter medication for students in accordance with their parent/guardian, applicable school policy, and legal guidelines.
Maintaining and distributing scheduled prescription medications to students per physician orders.
Maintaining appropriate medical records of vaccinations, illnesses, injuries, treatment plans, and progress.
Counseling the community on proactive steps to enhance health and wellness.
Informing faculty, staff, and students of proper medical procedures and policies as they relate to school wellness, learning and activities.
Assisting in the control and prevention of communicable disease by coordinating with community public health agencies and providing information to staff, students, and parents about preventative and protective measures against communicable diseases.
Assisting in planning for emergency care for illness or injury of students/staff on school premises, including development of emergency care plans for students with life threatening conditions.

Qualifications
Applicants must have proficient knowledge of pediatric nursing care and a minimum of 3 years of experience as a school nurse.
This position requires either an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Candidates must be licensed as a registered nurse (RN) and be CPR (BLS) certified.
Certification through either the State Department of Education or Department of Health is required.
