The Ramaz School has an opening for an experienced Middle School Director of Guidance beginning September 2026.
Responsibilities for this position include:
Counsel students regarding wide range of issues (e.g., anxiety, divorce, separation, cliques, bullying, learning disabilities and attention problems, internet abuse, eating disorders)
Support the social/academic emotional development of students
Crisis intervention
Confer/meet regularly with students’ outside mental health professionals, evaluators and tutors
Collaborate with teachers, parents, nurse, and administration to develop and implement strategies (e.g., behavior plans and contracts) to support students’ academic and social development
Conduct workshops and presentations on relevant mental health topics
Develop Ramaz mental health policies and protocols
Maintain student records such as meeting notes, confidential records, support service documentation and observational data
Observe students in classroom and suggest follow up interventions such as behavior contracts
Create and continually update student information files providing faculty updated information about students’ learning, family, health and emotional issues
Meet with teachers and students to resolve conflicts about behavior and classroom issues
Convene parent meetings regarding students’ social emotional and learning issues
Provide parents with referrals for therapists, psychiatrists and learning specialists
Generally communicate effectively with parents regarding their child’s classroom life and child development
Meet and collaborate with Middle School administration team
Serve on Middle School admissions team and interview student applicants to Middle School with Middle School Head
Requirements
Minimum of a Ph.D. in Psychology or a Psy. D.
Strong communication skills with students, colleagues and parents.
Ability to work with students 1:1 and in various group settings.
Interest in professional growth and commitment to continuous learning
Ability to be self-reflective and commitment to learning from feedback received from colleagues, administrators, and students.
