The Science Curriculum Coordinator and Middle School Science Teacher at Yeshivah of Flatbush Elementary School is vital in shaping the grades 1–8 science program to align with the school’s mission and Portrait of a Graduate. Responsibilities include overseeing curriculum development, ensuring vertical alignment, integrating diverse instructional resources, and utilizing assessment data to inform instruction. The coordinator observes and coaches teachers, leads professional development, supports curriculum mapping and lesson planning, and fosters consistency in instructional practices. Collaboration with the General Studies leadership, Head of School, and fellow educators is essential to ensure a cohesive and high-quality science education across all grades.
In addition to curriculum coordination, the role includes teaching two daily periods of middle school science aligned with Next Generation Science Standards. The teacher must create a supportive and engaging classroom environment, manage behavior effectively, and encourage scientific exploration. The position also involves budgeting, communicating professionally with all stakeholders, and modeling a growth mindset that believes in the potential of all students and educators.
